The granularity that is important to you pretty much depends upon the commonalities between the two people were trying to communicate. So for example like you are a human and you are talking to aliens and you're talking about space the granularity that matters is universe. Let us say you're talking to a person from another planet in the same universe then the granularity that matters is planet. Let us are you talking to a person from another country then the granularity that matters his country. One way of identifying is when you are trying to freeze whenever you use another X that is the granularity level that is relevant to you.

This also goes with our logic of generic versus specific. When we looking at like two people communicating with each other we look at like what are the things that are generated to them and what are the things that are different to them. Granularity that matters is that particular point where we transition from common to the differences.

All of these things or especially with respect to space similarly we can use time also as another dimension.
