Connecting Obsidian Desktop and Obsidian Mobile is a great flex.
Syncing with Obsidian Sync
- Create an account on Obsidian - https://obsidian.md/account
- Download Obsidian on Desktop
- Download Obsidian on mobile
- Login to your account on both
- Both on Desktop and Mobile do the following
- Go to settings
- From core plugins enable Sync
- Once you enable the sync option will be available at the settings page(Go back and click on settings again)
- Click on the steps suggested
- Use the same name for the vaults on
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Remote Sync
- Once you are done you look at the sync status to know
- Create a file on desktop and see it is appearing on the mobile app
- Create a file of mobile and see that it appearing desktop app.
Syncing using Dropbox
- All the files in Obsidian are markdown files in a folder. Knowing this helps you a lot.
- So the sync between desktop for Obsidian is just syncing the folder that is used in the vaults.
- Before you start remember the folder location you are using in Mobile and desktop for starting the Obsidian - Better to keep it same.
- Try to keep the vault names also same on both the destop and mobile Obsidian apps. This will reduce the confusions and make sure that links work without any issues.
- Install dropbox on both desktop and mobile.
- Add a folder in Dropbox on Desktop. Create a new vault in Obsidian and open it from the folder you just created in Dropbox.
- Now go to mobile and make sure that the folder in dropbox is visible.
- Create a new vault from Obsidian Mobile app. Use the same vault name. Point the obisidian app to the same folder in dropbox.
- Create a file on desktop and see it is appearing on the mobile app
- Create a file of mobile and see that it appearing desktop app.
